Parents of Washington County School students,
The St. George Police Department School Resource Officers are excited to hold our first S.P.E.A.R. Academy for students in Washington County School District. Our academy, which stands for Students, Police, Education, Achievement, and Resiliency, aims to strengthen relationships between local youth and law enforcement while building resilience, promoting individual responsibility, and improving academic engagement, and community commitment.
We are looking forward to working with your students to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. We have chosen to focus on 6th, 7th, and 8th graders as these are the years we have found have a lot of change, new challenges, and growth going on.
Some of the activities we will be doing this summer will be show-and-tell with police vehicles and equipment, fingerprinting, physical activities, K-9 presentation, bike maintenance, and safety. We will also learn communication skills, resiliency, proper behavior at school and around the community, internet safety, and social media.
Our academy will be a FREE four-day program, which will rotate each week throughout the Dixie, Pine View, Desert Hills, and Snow Canyon school boundaries. The first four weeks will be for incoming 6th graders. There will be two 3-hour sessions please sign up for one of the sessions. The sessions are 8:00 to 11:00 and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The second four weeks will be a combination of incoming 7th and 8th graders following the same 3-hour format.
We are looking forward to having your student attend and gain skills to help them be successful in and out of the classroom.
